Έχασε την έφεση ο Kareem
Με συνοπτικές διαδικασίες έχασε την έφεση ο αιγύπτιος blogger με το ψευδώνυμο Kareem Amer κατά της καταδικαστικής απόφασης που του είχε επιβάλλει αιγυπτιακό δικαστήριο για προσβολή του προέδρου Mubarak και του Ισλάμ.
Η καταδίκη του Abdul Kareem Nabeel Suleiman, τον περασμένο μήνα, προκάλεσε διεθνή κατακραυγή ενάντια στην Αίγυπτο, που έχει χαρακτηριστεί από τον οργανισμό Ρεπόρτερς χωρίς σύνορα ως ένας από τους 13 εχθρούς του internet.
Η οργάνωση σημειώνει στο σχετικό δελτίο τύπου:
“All of Egypt’s Internet users are being targeted through Suleiman,” [..] ” A threat is now hanging over their heads. We fear that other arrests and website closures could soon take place as the authorities seem to have decided to bring Internet users into line.”
During today’s appeal hearing, the presiding judge ruled that the courts could accept complaints brought by individual lawyers demanding reparations from Suleiman for “insulting” Islam in his blog [..]
Meanwhile, Alexandria appeal court president Abdel Fattah Murad yesterday brought a complaint against the Egyptian government, demanding the closure of 21 websites that “attack the President of the Republic.” Local sources told Reporters Without Borders that the website of the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information and the very popular blogs Baheyya and Gharbeia were among the sites concerned.
Η Amira Al Hussaini συλλέγει τη σχετική ειδησεογραφία στα ΜΜΕ και τα αιγυπτιακά blogs για το Global Voices Online. Κατά τ’ άλλα, η Αίγυπτος έχει επιλεγεί από τον ΟΗΕ για να φιλοξενήσει το Internet Governance Forum του 2009…
Μετά τις εξελίξεις της περασμένης εβδομάδας στα καθ’ ημάς, αναρωτιέμαι αν θα έρθει κάποια στιγμή που θα δούμε και έλληνες bloggers να απολογούνται στο εδώλιο για την άσκηση της ελεύθερης έκφρασης.
