Τα blogs για το Λίβανο
Παρ’ ότι είναι πλέον τετριμμένη η παρατήρηση ότι από την 11η Σεπτεμβρίου και μετά, τα blogs αποτελούν τη ματιά και τη λαλιά του κόσμου στα σημαντικά γεγονότα, τη στιγμή που η ενσωματωμένη δημοσιογραφία και η τηλεόραση αναπαράγουν τις ίδιες ρηχές εικόνες και πληροφορίες, ο πόλεμος στο Λίβανο δείχνει για μιά ακόμα φορά πόσο σημαντικό ρόλο παίζουν για την ενημέρωση οι ανταποκρίσεις των πολιτών από τη γραμμή του πυρός.
Με τίτλο Blogs vs. Bombs, το σημερινό άρθρο της νοτιοαφρικανικής Mail & Guardian είναι ένα από τα πρώτα που αναφέρονται συγκεκριμένα στην κάλυψη της κρίσης από λιβανέζικα blogs, χωρίς όμως να δίνει και τα σχετικά links (μιά τάση από την οποία πάσχουν και τα περισσότερα άρθρα ελληνικών εφημερίδων που αναφέρονται σε blogs). One writer, identified as Bob, AKA Beirutus, said in an entry filled with spelling errors — but also with anger — that Israel was guilty of incomprehensible brutality.
“The Israeli maddness has been pretty ugly, shattering people, targetting fleeying cars turning whoever inside of it from babies who have no idea who Hezbollah are into charred bodies and turning people into mere pieces of flesh scattered all over.”
His site, 12manypeaches.com, which links to an online petition (julywar.epetitions.net) urging people to “Save the Lebanese Citizens”, added that he could not understand how Israel has “no problem in cornering a whole population of a sovereign nation, and killing them”.
Another blogger, Mustapha of BeirutSpring.com, laid the blame on the Lebanese militia Hezbollah, which has been firing rockets at Israel and threatening the Jewish state with more strikes if the Israeli offensive continues.[..]
Hardig, a Swedish student stuck in Beirut, has started a site called Beirut Under Siege, on which he wrote that “in between their raids, there is really nothing to do, other than think about what a depressing situation this is”.[..]
Despite the seriousness of the situation, Hardig said he was finding it hard to change his habits, particularly when going to the supermarket to prepare for a long hunkering down period.
“I’m terrible at shopping for war. I keep glancing at the wine bottles, then realising that that’s hardly emergency products! Well, it could be I suppose, but I’d rather keep my head clear with the situation as it is.”

Olmert can choose to annihilate Hezbollah completely. That would involve a major regional war that I don’t think Israel is ready for or that the world community would allow. So that leaves Olmert with the only the choice of when to stop the killing and start the negotiations. Do it today with 30 civillians dead already, or do it next week with 300 dead.
I’m afraid 300 might be the number closer to quenching his blood thirst.
Life is going on as normal in Beirut, although a bit quieter than usual. [..] The power is on. The internet is working. The cellular lines are just fine. None of my calls are being dropped, domestically or internationally. Only one phone call I received from Syria was garbled by static.
I am sure the situation is similar anywhere north of Beirut: Metn, Kesrouwan, Coura, Tripoli, Bsherre, and Akkar. The situation in Beirut’s southern suburbs and Southern Lebanon is bad, but not atrocious. It doesn’t come close to Israel’s 1982 invasion in scale or lives lost. Electricity and phone lines are out, but friends from Saida and Nabatieh tell me their families are tense, but fine.
I am not yet concerned for my relatives. Let us be ugly and frank about ethnicity here: my village is Christian. The Israelis have had its coordinates for over a generation. They have never before bombed Christian Lebanese so I am not yet frightened. I am disgusted and bitter but I am not frightened for my own family. Yet.
I am sorry for the Lebanese families who grieve today. Don’t ask me to say anything about anybody else right now, I am a flawed, selfish woman and my heart has only so much room this evening.

Man, this is really fucked up. Really fucked up. The Israelis have really gone way overboard this time. And they will pay dearly.
Πρόσφατο άρθρο στη European Tribune αναλύει ενδελεχώς και με ψυχραιμία την απότομη αλλαγή στάσης της Washington απέναντι στο Λίβανο και την “κέδρινη επανάσταση“. Από την περίληψη του άρθρου:
This week, we saw a representative democracy launch a massive attack against another representative democracy, with no warning whatsoever.
The justification, if I’ve got this right: Hizbollah attacks Israel from Lebanese territory, Lebanon does nothing to stop this, Israel’s not going to put up with either Hizbollah or Lebanese longstanding unconcern for Israel’s complaints, and that’s why Lebanon is getting punished.
And besides, everyone knows (sic) that Lebanon’s not really a democracy anyway.
Funny thing…that’s not what people said as late as a week ago.
Ο David Bau του Google έχει καταρτίσει και ενημερώνει τακτικά λίστα με blogs που αναφέρονται στον πόλεμο (Lebanon Bloggers), με περιγραφές, ενώ το project Electronic Lebanon της Electronic Intifada, μεταξύ άλλων, φιλοξενεί blogs σχετικά με τον πόλεμο και περιέχει συνδέσεις σε blogs τρίτων.
Στο ελληνικό “μέτωπο” -που ως επί το πλείστον αδείεται- ο talos του πάντα έγκυρου Ιστολόγιου ανθολογεί επίσης την κάλυψη της κρίσης από τα blogs, μεταφράζοντας όμως τα αποσπάσματα που παραθέτει, ενώ το αγγλικό histologion αναδημοσιεύει ανταποκρίσεις απο το Λίβανο. Αρκετοί bloggers, ανάμεσα τους η Mirandolina, ο Μαύρος Γάτος και το Panic Room, αναδημοσίευσαν φωτογραφίες του δημοσιογράφου Hanady Salman με πτώματα βρεφών που -όπως αναφέρει- δολοφονήθηκαν από τους Ισραηλινούς. Ανατριχιαστικό το θέαμα, αλλά σαφώς είναι κι αυτός ένας τρόπος να αφυπνιστεί η κοινή γνώμη που συνήθως βιώνει τους πολέμους μέσα από τις “παστρικές” εικόνες της τηλεόρασης. Το blog του Μαύρου Γάτου δέχεται κύματα επισκεπτών από το εξωτερικό, μετά την αναφορά σε post του από το blog της Guardian.
Τέλος, το εκτενές άρθρο της Wikipedia σχετικά με την κρίση ενημερώνεται διαρκώς, ενώ στην σελίδα συζήτησής του μπορεί να δει κανείς πως λειτουργεί η ερασιτεχνική συλλογική δημοσιογραφία σε δράση.
