NET Telethon for tsunami victims
Greek state television Channel 2 (NET) is organizing a “Support The Victims of the Deadly Tsunami” Humanitarian Telethon from Tuesday morning until Wednesday morning. Chip in everybody, every little bit helps!
The contact phone number for the Telethon is +30210-9556400. People who wish to offer money can either deposit the sum directly, or announce their offer on NET’s television and NET 105.8 radio programmes and then make the deposit. The Telethon collects donations in the following ways:
- SMS messages to the number 4536, containing the word ASIA, from people located in Greece, are charged for 1 Euro which is contributed to the Telethon

Additionally, NET has set up special kiosks in Athens, at Syntagma Square and Eleftherios Venizelos international airport, which will be open today until late at night to accept donations.
The money raised will be delivered to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then to the UN via bilateral and multilateral agreements, in order to be delivered to the governments of the afflicted areas.
Since 05:45 this morning, the total sum of donations raised exceeds 5.180.000€!
Update (21:00): 7.000.000€! Άντε, παιδιά, είμαστε 11 εκατομμύρια. Να ισοφαρίσουμε τουλάχιστον το 1€ ανά κάτοικο. Προλαβαίνετε, μέχρι το χάραμα.. Update 2 (Τετάρτη, 00:30): 8.000.000€ παρά κάτι. Δεν τον φτάνουμε τον πληθυσμό σε δωρεές, μάλλον, αλλά οι Έλληνες έχουμε περίπου 10 εκατομμύρια κινητά. Άντε να βλέπω τους ξενύχτηδες να στέλνουν SMS.. Update 3 (Τετάρτη, 03:30): Ο τηλεμαραθώνιος συνεχίζεται.. Προλαβαίνουμε να φτάσουμε και τα 10, και τα 11 εκατομμύρια! (μάλλον αυτό σκέφτηκαν οι υπεύθυνοι της ΝΕΤ, και πολύ καλά έκαναν). Οι τράπεζες πλέον δέχονται δωρεές και από το εξωτερικό, σε λογαριασμούς IBAN. Update 3 (Τετάρτη, 12:30): Πάνω από 12.000.000€! Είμαι περήφανος για τους έλληνες, περάσαμε αριθμητικά και τον αριθμό των κινητών και τον πληθυσμό της χώρας σε δωρεές. Και είμαστε 4 φορές πιό γενναιόδωροι από την Microsoft!
